Guilford County has quite a past - and you are invited to visit it!  Greensboro Historical Museum boasts 12 galleries and two restored houses showcasing the times that history was influenced by Greensboro.  In1960, Greensboro Sit-Ins vitalized a nation.  Dolley Madison, one of our nation’s most beloved first ladies, was from the New Garden area of Greensboro.  A style setter (her turbans were copied across Europe), and an accomplished hostess, Dolley Madison is most frequently remembered for her courage.  While the British burned Washington during the War of 1812, Dolley personally saved many state papers as well as a renowned portrait of George Washington, during the War of 1812.  Another native who is remembered at the Greensboro Historical Museum, is O. Henry, who invented a new genre of the American short story.   Model T travel,  world-class collection of Civil War firearms, and an exciting exhibit of furniture created by Piedmont craftsmen, are only some of the wonders there.  Edward R. Murrow was also born in Greensboro.

Guilford Courthouse, the site of the Revolutionary War battle of Guilford Courthouse is a national military park.  The Natural Science Center of Greensboro offers a zoo, a Gem and Mineral Gallery, a dinosaur exhibit, and a planetarium.
